This summer season will look much different than last year but won’t look exactly like 2019 either. Even with things looking up and vaccines steadily rolling out, many families will still be staying at home this summer. So, have you started to look at your home landscape design and what improvements you’d like to make this warm-weather season? Nothing completes a staycation better than a multi-functional sports court. Let’s see how.

Sport Courts – More than BasketballHardscaping Services

Many homeowners think a rudimentary concrete space in the backyard with a basketball hoop stuck in the cement counts as a “sport court”. Well sure you can play sports on it, but that doesn’t exactly qualify. When we refer to a “multi-sport court” we’re referring to a professionally planned and laid multi-purpose court. Complete with a basketball hoop, basketball sidelines and 3 point line, tennis net and proper tennis sidelines for singles & doubles, and options like pickleball lines, and more.

Here is a beautiful example from one of our completed projects in Rockland County NY which really brings your home landscape design together.

More Space – More Safety

When the neighborhood kids get together to play basketball, baseball, kickball, dodgeball, roller hockey, dungeon, tag, hide and seek, and any other game; they often have to do it in the street. This is not only unsafe but limiting on what the kids can do, plus they have to constantly be on the lookout for cars passing by. If you live on a busy road, playing in the street in any capacity is impossible. This is why having a dedicated multi-sport court cat home can change the entire dynamic of outdoor play for your kids and their friends.

Increase Your Property Value

Although it isn’t for everyone, an addition to your home like this will increase your property value substantially. The difference will depend on where you live and what exactly you have built, but there are some estimates which say a multi-purpose sports court can do as much or more to increase your property value as a new pool installation. So if you’re looking to make some home improvements this year, a sports court will likely be a good choice.

Sports Training at Home

Now, getting a tennis court built at home doesn’t (or shouldn’t) permit you to force 5 hours of practice on your kids every day while their friends are playing. Doing that will teach them to hate the game and maybe even you a little along the way, likely the opposite of your intention with the sports court build-out. There is a time and place for play and legitimate sports training, and now you have the option to work both in from home.

Let’s take a look at tennis lessons for a moment. Private lessons can run anywhere from $60-$90 an hour including court fees at private clubs. But if your home is the location of the tennis court for training, you can eliminate the costs for court fees at the local club. This can also leave the door open for friendly competition at home, after all, what kid doesn’t want to beat their parents are sports or anything else for that matter.

A sport court at home is a great way to build friendly competition and keep sports fun. Just be sure to know your children’s limits as you don’t want them hating the new court because you’re constantly forcing them to train!

Choosing the Best Construction Company Rockland NY

Knowing who to hire for this sort of large project may not seem that straight forwards. You should be looking for a few key things:

  • Portfolio of similar work completed: how is their past work for similar projects?
  • On-site free quote and consultations? If they won’t come to look at your property and discuss the project, look elsewhere
  • How long have they been in business here in Rockland County? If they’re less than a few decades old, you may consider them elsewhere.
  • How does their estimate compare? You should always get more than one estimate and compare them (but there is more than price to consider like the points above)
  • and more

You should be confident when you hire a construction contractor. Asking some questions can do just that.
